Crimson-headed Partridge

Haematortyx sanguiniceps

The crimson-headed partridge (Haematortyx sanguiniceps) is a species of bird in the family Phasianidae, and the only member of the genus Haematortyx. It is endemic to the island of Borneo. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Its closest relatives are the Asian spurfowl (genus Galloperdix) and the peacock-pheasants (genus Polyplectron), which are both also in the tribe Polyplectronini. Haematortyx is thought to be the most basal of the three.
